The pebble has been restored using the kintsugi technique and originates from the Seestadt Aspern development area, which is under construction in Vienna's 22nd district, Donaustadt. It was probably crushed by a bulldozer when meadow land was converted into a road.
Seestadt Aspern is one of the largest ongoing urban development projects in Europe. By completion there are expected to be 25,000 residents and 20,000 jobs in the city. The city is named after the Aspern Lake, a man-made lake dug in its centre.
This is the first piece in a new series created in collaboration with the restorer and Kintsugi master Marie-Luise Reinecke.
