A family tree with three artefacts mounted in between.
On the day of the laying of the memorial in Vienna in September 2025, I asked the two children of the Schick family's sole survivors – my mother and my aunt – to bring an object to the Bezirksmuseum Mariahilf. This marked the opening of my long-term project at the museum. The exhibition started with emptiness, but was filled with these three objects as a point of departure. My mother chose a porcelain figurine that her mother had given her, and my aunt brought a medal that her father had received for serving in the Jewish Brigade during the war. I added a photograph of my grandmother posing with three other people, who I have yet to identify, taken in a Budapest photo studio in 1936.
